We the undersigned agree to comply with the United Pleasure Walking Horse Association, Inc. Rules and Regulations. A complete copy of these rules and regulations is available by requesting a copy of these rules and regulations from the President of the organization at 816-690-4515.

THE UNITED PLEASURE  WALKING HORSE ASSOCIATION, INC., herein referred to as UPWHA, is a not for profit corporation created to promote the naturally gaited pleasure walking horse for personal and family enjoyment and to function as an association for the promotion of the naturally gaited pleasure walking horse. This is a Sound, Pleasure Horse organization: our membership presents horses in maximum shoeing no heavier than manufactured keg (a.k.a. trail) shoes, with a responsibility to present horses with a clean sound image, and a natural gait.

We the undersigned agree to comply with the Horse Protection Act of 1970. (Senate Bill #2543)

All new applicants will be reviewed using lists from the USDA and any other HIO list citing violations of the Federal Horse Protection Act. Applicants will be requested to present their horses for review.

A.       Any member found to be not in concert with the UPWHA statement of purpose; to include the owning, training or exhibition of so-called performance (stacked, chained or heavy shod) Tennessee Walking Horses; placing a horse in training with a walking horse trainer, boarding any personal horse with an individual who trains, promotes, sells or boards stacked, chained or heavy shod horses will have their membership revoked.

B.       No padded-up (Big Lick) or heavy shod horses will be accepted in UPWHA classes.

C.      Any member who receives, or owns a horse receiving, an "upheld" HIO or USDA ticket for unilateral soring, scar rule, foreign substance, bilateral soring or pressure shoeing, etc. while owned by them will have their membership revoked.

D.      Any member exhibiting a horse found to be sore, unsound, chained, chemically treated, or presenting a bad image will have their membership revoked.

E.       Any violation of a Federal, State or local Horse Protection Laws will result in revoking of one’s membership. If a ticket has been written but not resolved, membership and eligibility to show in a UPWHA class is suspended but not revoked until the violation is either upheld or dismissed.

F.       Any member displaying poor sportsmanship or discourteousness to Judges, Show Management, or Exhibitors will have their membership reviewed.

G.      Any infraction of any UPWHA Rules and Regulations will be reason to disqualify or bar from UPWHA classes or affiliated events.

Shoeing Maximum:

If shod, member horse’s shoes should weigh no more than a traditional, manufactured keg shoe of comparable shoe size.  No shoe is to extend beyond the bulb of the horse’s heel when a perpendicular line is drawn from the bulb of the horse’s heel to the ground. Borium or drilltech is permitted but the thickness of the shoe with borium must not exceed 3/8 inches.

No hoof bands are permitted. Welded on clips are not permitted. Only clips that are drawn from the shoe itself are permitted. No additional weight shall be allowed on or in the hoof other than the shoe and nails.
